About
me
I have been an enthousiastic amateur photographer for about 9 years now. It all started when my very good
friend and brilliant landscape photographer Arthur, asked me to join him on a shoot in the Rotterdam Zoo,
together with a mutual friend. When I said I would love to but did not own a camera, our mutual friend
offered to loan me her old Minolta and that was it. I was hooked. Soon I outgrew the full-automatic Minolta
and bought myself a Nikon F80. Me and my F80 got along fine together with some slide film, until I was able to
buy myself a Nikon D100 thanks to my grandmother. The D100 allowed me to experiment a lot more and I learned
all about the do's and don'ts of taking pictures thanks to my memory card's capacity. I spent a lot of time
with my new camera and even more on my computer editing and fixing my shots in photoshop. I soon learned that taking
more care when actually takingthe picture saves you a lot of time afterwards, ànd that photoshop cannot
make a bad picture good. I know, these seem like evident truths but tell that to a triggerhappy beginning photo
enthousiast with an image tank of 30GB! I started taking less pictures and putting more thought into them. And I soon found out
this process taught me even more. During this time I met some great online friends, women photographers from all over the world
who helped me develop and learn, and who got me into even more trouble. They showed me the world of analogue photography.
Inspired by them I went to London with my D100 and my nearly forgotten F80 and one role of Black&White film, a role
of Ilford FP4+ 125. That trip started my Black&White film obsession. After the holiday, I collected my father's old
developing reels and tanks and bought a bottle of Rodinal. After developing the film from my London holiday I was definitely
turned towards the dark side. (and yes, we have cookies!) I sold my Nikon F80, and with the money I raised from the sale
I bought a Nikon FM and filled my fridge with roles of Agfa APX 100. After this my photographic enthousiasm took a turn
for the worst, of which you can view the results in the various black & white galleries on this website (specially the
Vintage Monochrome gallerie). I am now a confessed black&white film addict, I love the hands on character of working with film,
I even like the developing, the feeling that with every agitation of the tank the liquid inside brings your pictures to life. I love
working with camera's from past times, but I also appreciate the almost whimsicle fun of toy camera's.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my photographs as much as I enjoy taking them!
Kind regards,
Jorine
My gratitude goes out to my friend Arthur Sevestre,
who got the ball roling. My grandmother. My father for donating his old darkroom, his old lenses and
printer to me and indirectly teaching me a lot by being a very enthousiastic and obsessive photographer himself. My Woman Photographer friends who inspire me and teached me so much already.
And last but definitely not least my boyfriend Peter for carrying my tripod, waiting for me while I choose my shots, putting up with the roles of
film hanging in our shower and his endless patience.
Thank you!
